Product Applications
Music Mix/Mastering Rooms
These rooms are critical listening rooms. To be able to put out a quality product you must have clean, clear imaging and a linear response across the full audio spectrum. Placement of the right acoustical treatments, both diffusion and absorption is critical to be able to manage the room’s acoustics. The primary acoustic issues in small room like mix rooms are the low frequency modal response, speaker – boundary interference and strong early reflection interference from walls, ceiling, consoles and equipment racks. The wide variety of Golden Acoustics products enables you to dial in the desired room acoustics to perfection.
Recording Studios
Recording studios come in many shapes and sizes, from basement studios to sound scoring stages for full orchestra. Each of these studios has a primary type or style of music. Not one particular studio can work for every sound situation. Regardless of the size of the room, a uniform, flat, linear response throughout the room is essential. This requires the right amount of diffusion to handle standing waves, modal issues and various types of echoes. The reverb time of the room has a significant bearing on what type of recordings you can successfully obtain. This can be controlled by the amount of absorption placed in the room. With our extremely versatile Golden Section Panels, the exact room acoustics that are desired can be achieved.
Project Studios
Many fine recordings have come out of the independent project studios. This is usually made possible because the owner/engineer has countless hours of experience of how to eke out a good result in spite of negative rooms “issues”. Golden Acoustics has made the world's finest acoustic treatments affordable for even the most modest budgets. Our diffusion panel’s modular design allows incremental improvements to be made. The most serious problems can be solved first, like the rooms lower frequency modal issues. This can usually be significantly improved by installing two E-18 SC panels. Then some of the specular reflection issues can be resolved with a couple of full wall panels.
School Rehearsal Rooms
In any rehearsal room it is critical that the musicians can hear themselves as well as each other. This requires the room to have good linear reflective properties. It can not be too “dead”. It can not be sonically absorbed or too reverberant. Reflections from other instruments, as well as their own, are necessary for the musicians to keep time, form a good tone and create an overall blended sound.
Music Practice Rooms
Music practice rooms are unique environments. Unfortunately, they do not sound like, or give the same feel, as the performing hall that musicians who are practicing will play in. Ideally, practice rooms should have adjustable acoustics that could vary with the type of instrument being practiced and adjustable to emulate the acoustics of the hall they will be performing in. Golden Acoustics makes acoustic treatment tools to be able to do exactly that – change the practice room acoustics with both our diffusion panels and our tunable columns.
Voice-over Booths
Voiceover booths are typically very sound deadened small rooms. These rooms are usually used for close microphone recording by a narrator. The problem with “dead” rooms is that they produce dead deliveries. Current research is showing that even with a simple recording like a voice narration, a more vibrant delivery enhances the effect of the message. The Golden Acoustics Wall Panels will add the perfect blend of diffusion along with absorption to enhance the acoustical effectiveness of a Voice-over Booth.
Corporate Conference Rooms & Meeting Rooms
Conference rooms are important meeting rooms that require clear articulation of voice. Historically these rooms have been sonically killed off by excessive use of absorption. Golden Acoustics Diffusion Panels are the ideal sound management tool to maximize voice communication with out killing the room. These panels allow the room to be both vibrant and have clear articulation so that everyone in the room can hear what’s being said anywhere in the room, including speakerphones. By back filling the panel cavities the reverb time can be dialed in.
School Class Rooms
The acoustics in classrooms are very important. If the rooms are too lively the students can become unruly. If the rooms are too “dead”, it is difficult to keep the students attention. The proper balance is extremely important and can be achieved by utilizing Golden Acoustics Diffusion Panels. The liveliness of the room can be dialed in by adding absorption in the cavities behind the panels.
Small, Medium & Large Performing Halls
Great sounding performing halls all have one common characteristic, a very diffusive sonic field. This was usually the result of fine plaster ornamentation and frescos. They use very little sound absorption; usually no more than the seats, because there is a limit to the amount of sonic energy a performer can produce. Now, by design and full intent, any hall can achieve wonderful acoustics by applying the Golden Acoustics Golden Section Diffusion Panels. These panels are able to diffuse the entire audio spectrum, and can do it linearly. See the product descriptions above.
Large Industrial Spaces
Many companies are acquiring inexpensive industrial space and converting it to office space. These large rooms have inherently poor acoustics. With the Golden Acoustics Golden Section Diffusion Panels these spaces can economically have their acoustics perfected. Clarity of voice and reverb times can be dialed in to the desired levels. See the Full Ceiling Panel above for details.
Movie Theaters
Most movie theaters have their loudspeakers behind the screen (except for the rear surround channels). The theater environment typically has so much absorption that the theater is dead. In order for people in the back of the theatre to hear, the speakers behind the screen have to blast the people in the front rows of the theatre. They do not pick up reflections from the side walls. To properly balance the sound in the room, movie theaters need a more equalized environment. This would lower the overall SPL (Sound Pressure Level) and everyone in the theater would be able to hear much better.
Home Theaters
Home theaters are wonderful opportunities to create that “special” environment that gives the viewer the feeling of being a part of the film they’re watching. Home theaters try to recreate the experience of being at the theater. The problem is that the volume of space that most Home Theaters have to work with is only a fraction of an actual theater volume. In order to create that big immersive experience, there are many challenges.
The objective is to get the acoustic performance of a smaller space to feel “big” and spacious. This requires a linear, balanced diffusive sound field. In order to do this you need to effectively manage the sound generated in the room by the loudspeakers and the sub-woofer. This cannot be accomplished electronically at any price. The most effective dollars you can spend on creating a good Home Theater room is on the acoustical treatments. There will be more of an audible difference than any piece of electronic hardware, speaker or wire you can buy. Golden Acoustics acoustic treatment products are designed to economically accomplish this “big” room feel. It does so, by balancing the right amount of diffusion and absorption.
Houses of Worship
Houses of Worship generally have a large open space built of hard reflective materials. This produces long reverb times, on the order of 4 seconds or more, which makes voice articulation almost impossible. However, it does make a wonderful environment for listening to pipe organ. It is possible, utilizing the Golden Acoustic diffusion tools, to dial in the perfect blend of a medium reverb time of 2 seconds and still obtain good voice clarity.
